Waste Management in the USA

The United States is one of the biggest producers and users of plastic in the world. Millions of tons of plastic end up as waste every year, and many packaging and food-service plastics are used just once before being thrown away. Soft, flexible plastic packaging is not recycled and typically ends up in landfills. The US is also one of the biggest exporters of scrap plastic: over 1 billion pounds of scrap plastic are sent for processing abroad every year.
